Narcissus obvallaris
The Tenby Daffodil, now generally regarded as a subspecies of Narcissus pseudonarcissus, is one of our most charming native daffodils and a particularly fitting emblem of Wales. Found naturally in a limited area around Tenby in South West Wales, this graceful smaller daffodil has long been valued for its clear golden flowers, modest stature, and suitability for naturalistic planting.
Easy to grow and undemanding in cultivation, it is particularly well suited to meadows, woodland edges, orchards, and informal garden settings where it may establish happily over time. Flowering in March and reaching a modest height of approximately 8–12 inches, it offers a gentler and more natural garden presence than many of the larger modern hybrids, blending beautifully into the spring landscape rather than dominating it.
