Galanthus nivalis
Native to Wales and the western parts of Britain, this much-loved snowdrop has naturalised widely across the British Isles and remains one of the most cherished heralds of the gardening year. Found naturally in damp woodland and happily at home in most garden soils, it is particularly well suited to woodland edges, grass, orchards, and naturalistic planting where it may establish gently over time. Flowering from January to March, its elegant nodding white flowers bring welcome brightness at a time when little else is in bloom. AGM
