This sweet scented daffodil with its slender trumpet and petals rounding to a point, starts pale yellow fading to ivory white. It flowers in April while its avine namesake emits its atmospheric calls across our coastal marshes. It may have several flowers per stem and is about 14-16cm tall.

This has delightfully twisted cream petals its small gold cup running to bright orange at the margins. This pre 1890 Engleheart cultivar was lost to cultivation until found recently in a Cornish garden.

As with Narcissus Golden Phoenix the Dutch have a food orientated name for this Phoenix too, Eggs and Bacon. It is a very old daffodil having emerge before 1731. This beautiful double daffodil starts yellow and then fades to white with a ruffle of bright orange at its centre.

The Dutch bred this pre 1901 daffodil in the bulb growing capital of the ‘Dune and Bulb Region’ of Holland. This daffodil was picked out from the thousands of other flowers as the most glorious of all. It has the classic look of Narcissus poeticus recurvus with pure white petals, a burning red cup and a gentle scent that wafts through the air on a sunny spring day.

This is a cross between Narcissus jonquilla and Narcissus tazetta and originated from South West France to West Spain in around 1719. Flowering between March and April, it has lily white petals with a lemon yellow cup. With a multitude of flowers per stem, it will bowl you over with its scent.

Registered in 1891 this small cupped wonder bred by the enthusiastic Rev Engleheart, who had a predilection for great seabirds as names for his creations, was one of his favourites. Its poets’ Narcissus side give it a scented orange rimmed cup, whilst its N.pseudorcissus genes produce ivory white propeller like petals. Height 14”, flowers in April.

This is known as the Rush Leaved Jonquil from its narrow foliage. With a delicate yellow cup and flat pointed petals it flowers in March with 2 to 3 flower heads on an 8” stem. It forms sweeping carpets of gold in high moist mountain pastures of Southern Spain when free from the ravages of man.

Growing less than 12” Mite resembles its Iberian parent N. cyclamineus in many other ways. Early flowering with strongly reflexed golden petals and yellow trumpet, it enjoys a streamside or short grass like its parent in the Galician Mountains.
